Scientific research is most valuable when it can be applied in real-world environments. The THMS® Pilot Projects are designed to evaluate, validate, and continuously improve the THMS® System under practical conditions.
Working in close cooperation with hotels, healthcare facilities, nursing homes, public accommodations, and research institutions, we collect scientific data that supports the development of evidence-based textile hygiene standards.
Our pilot projects aim to:
Evaluate the biological contamination of mattresses, pillows, mattress protectors, carpets, and other textile surfaces.
Assess the effectiveness of standardized textile hygiene measures.
Develop practical recommendations for improving hygiene management.
Support scientific research through documented field studies.
Create internationally comparable data for future research.
Each pilot project follows a standardized scientific procedure:
Initial inspection and documentation
Collection of textile samples using standardized methods
Laboratory analysis by cooperating research institutions
Evaluation of the findings
Implementation of recommended hygiene measures
Follow-up inspection and scientific documentation
Final project report and recommendations
This structured process ensures that all data are collected consistently and can be compared across different facilities and countries.
Pilot projects are conducted in cooperation with:
Universities
Accredited laboratories
Scientific institutions
Healthcare organizations
Hotel and hospitality partners
Public authorities where appropriate
All projects are carried out in accordance with the scientific and ethical principles established by THMS® International e. V.
Organizations participating in a pilot project receive:
A professional THMS® hygiene assessment
Scientific documentation of findings
Recommendations for improving textile hygiene
Support in implementing preventive hygiene measures
Contribution to independent scientific research
The opportunity to participate in future international research programs
THMS® Pilot Projects form part of our international research program (2025–2030). Initial projects are planned in Germany and Thailand, with the long-term objective of expanding the program to additional countries through international scientific cooperation.
We welcome cooperation with hotels, hospitals, nursing homes, universities, laboratories, and other organizations interested in supporting independent research in textile hygiene and public health.
If your organization would like to participate in a THMS® Pilot Project, please contact us. Together, we can generate valuable scientific knowledge and contribute to healthier, safer environments for everyone.
